STODDART – Peter Laurence Bowring

(24 June 1934 – 19 April 2019)

Peter Stoddart was in the Eleven in 1951 and 1952, captain in the second year, when Eton failed to take the last Harrow wicket. In the second year he played for the Southern Schools against the Rest, paying with Ted Dexter.

He subsequently played a solitary first class match for the MCC against Ireland – in a side captained by Malvern’s George Chesterton – which included Colin Cowdrey and was Walter Robins’ last first class match.

Lord’s however, was his unluckiest ground; not only did he make only 11 runs in four innings for the XI he was run out first ball when captaining Buckinghamshire there against Middlesex in the Gillette Cup in 1965.

He played 77 matches for Buckinghamshire between 1952 and 1957; in his last match as captain he batted with fellow Rambler David Calvert-Smith.
