The Ramblers brought down an moderately strong side to play the School and were soundly beaten. Jones and Crum added 38 before Jones was caught at the wicket, Tollemache came and went for 17 caught at mid off off Ridley. Studd acme in and played magnificently, taking 19 off two overs from Ridley. Crum was bowled by Whitfield for 38, which had taken two hours, and Studd carried on until he was magnificently caught at mid off by Whitfield. While he ha been at the wicket 124 had been added in 70 minutes of which he had made 83. After Talbot had been run out lunch was taken with the School 189 for 5

After Lunch Cadogan was bowled by Matthews for 17, followed by Ward being caught at the wicket off the same bowler. After Tristram had been run out for 21 Hervey Bathurst (29) and Ward (30) added 50 for the tenth wicket before another run out ended the innings for 313.

The Ramblers went in to bat at 5 pm; after the early loss of Bridgeman, Mordaunt hit Jones for 7 and 6 off consecutive deliveries – helped by overthrows – but after Forbes (26) and Mordaunt (24) were out wickets fell regularly. Ridley (23 not out) ran out of partners on the stroke of time leaving the School victorious by 183 runs. Jones, with 5 for 49, was the best of the School bowlers, supported by Tollemache – 2 for 19, Jones – 2 for 30 – and Studd 2 for 2.
